LUIA MANTELLI

Luia Mantelli graduated in 2003 in Architecture and Urban Planning from Uniritter. In the same year he went to live in Barcelona where he began his postgraduate studies in Amoblament, at the Déia Disseny school. During this period, parallel to the course, he worked in different areas, which were essential for his professional and personal training. The following years were filled with hard work, persistence and dedication to studies. He participated in several competitions, winning prizes in the area of furniture and architecture. At the end of the course, he was tasked, through the office where he worked (air-projects.com), to develop specific projects to revitalize the old town of Cagliari-Sardegna.
According to Luia, it was a very important moment in her career "it was my first authorial project, starting my career as a furniture designer, applying all the experience acquired during the course and work trajectory in Barcelona." In these projects, all furniture was exclusive: tables, chairs, and the entire visual program had to express the new face that the old town of Cagliari intended to convey to its inhabitants, through renovation.
This project lasted 3 years and that was when the architect returned to Brazil and launched his first furniture collection by Signo Moveis, a company from Lajeado, which manufactures and distributes pieces throughout Brazil. In 2019, the entire Signo Moveis line, signed by Luia, will be reissued and sold by Drio Mobiliário.
Parallel to this, Luia began her studies in Furniture Design at Unisinos + Politécnica de Milano, to absorb more quickly what the Brazilian market required, which was very important for adapting to the local market and the product system.
In search of new partners, Reeps arrived (based in Lajeado since 1948, the
Reeps is one of the most important wooden manufacturers in Brazil) and, together with Mathias Sander, its executive director, he started the first line of furniture created by Reeps: Drio Mobiliário.
"In these years of experience working as a furniture designer, I learned
The designer's true role: connecting the manufacturer to the end customer. So that
happens, it is necessary to immerse yourself in the particular manufacturing process of each company and,
using its main potential, create attractive pieces with a competitive price in the eyes of the consumer. It is strategic and collaborative work, where the designer is just one piece of the entire system: my role as a designer is to put human needs and desires at the center of everything, it means designing furniture and products that support and improve human behavior and actions in everyday life, restoring human balance in brands and companies."
Luia currently connects companies and people with the national and international market, working collaboratively, and thus, creating new businesses, generating jobs and enhancing the best of them, through the experience acquired over the years, inside and outside Brazil.
He is the creative director of Drio Mobiliário, whose main objective is to serve the market through authorial design: "it is to understand the company's DNA to design and work less as an author and more as a collaborator - enhancing the best characteristics of the industry, as well as helping the development of new competitive differentiators for different customer profiles."
