Born in Mexico City, daughter of a Brazilian and an Argentinean, Diana Helman came to Rio de Janeiro at the age of 4.
Helman began painting as a child, attending his mother's sculpture studio and his grandmother's painting studio, Ione Saldanha, famous for her slats and bamboo. He graduated from Puc-Rio in Graphic Design, with an emphasis on Visual Communication, worked in design agencies and did projects for companies.
For a period of her professional career, Diana Helman treated painting only as a hobby. She took painting courses at the Barro Oco studio in Ipanema, at the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts, but continued to work as a designer and communicator. The turning point came in 2015, when he moved with his family to Petrópolis, set up a studio at home and started painting with full force.
Today, the “Mexican Carioca” develops a series of paintings guided by spirituality and the beauty of simplicity. Through the use of colors, he proposes a contemplative look at life with compositions of moments and landscapes with strong gestures and lots of movement.
